New York State Law requires that all children from birth to age 8 be restrained in an appropriate child restrain system while riding in a motor vehicle.

  • All children under the age of 4 are required to be in a federally appoved car seat. If the child is under the age of 4, and over 40 pounds the child may be restrained by use of a approved booster seat.

  • All children ages 4-7 must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system. An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets the child's size and weight recommended by the manufacturer. A booster seat may be used.
