Safety Guidelines

In an effort to keep all staff and visitors safe:

  • The pool is open to Guilderland residents only. A resident/resident family will be able to bring guests to the facility with them if they would like. Residents must have ID on them as proof of residency to be checked at the pool entrance.
  • A resident can bring up to two non-resident guests. A resident family can bring up to five non-resident guests (for example - family from out of town).
  • Cleaning and disinfecting around the facility will be implemented.

Swim Test Policy

All camps/outside groups will have any child looking to go into the diving area take a swim test. A lifeguard on the ground will administer the test - child must jump in the shallow area and swim to the other side of the pool without touching the bottom. Once a child completes the test, the lifeguard will let them and the camp directors know if they are able to swim in the diving area or not.

Pool Attire Policy

  • All patrons using the pool must be attired in swimming apparel. No street clothes are allowed in the pool.
  • Swimwear should not have been worn for exercising immediately prior to pool use as soiled clothing can create an unhealthy swimming environment.
  • All clothing must be colorfast and lightweight material suitable for swimwear, such as Lycra, Spandex, Burkinis or nylon.
  • T-Shirts and cotton clothing (including those for modesty or sun protection) are not permitted.
    • Cotton and some other materials can hold detergents, germs, and bacteria in them, which can be released into the water. This can cause swimmers to get sick and even affect the water's chemistry and clarity. Cotton also tends to absorb a lot of water and pool chemicals, requiring the pool to use more disinfectant. Cotton breaks down in the water, which clogs the pool filter system.
    • Additionally, when the cotton absorbs the pool water, it can become heavy, which can weigh down swimmers and make swimming more difficult. Loose cotton shirts can increase your risk of underwater entrapment.
