Today, the Town took ownership of the Cobblestone Schoolhouse, built in 1860, from the Guilderland Central School District. I thank voters for their overwhelming support for transferring this historic building to the Town. Assemblymember Pat Fahy secured a $125,000 grant for renovations including a new roof and interior upgrades. Because the property borders the Town’s Keenholts Park, it will allow the Parks & Recreation to install a multi-use path so that pedestrians and bicyclists can reach the park from the center of the hamlet.
Parks & Rec.’s 2024 Summer Camp is in its final two weeks, with the camp ending on Friday, August 9. You can still register for next week’s morning sessions and afternoon activities. The camp brochure details over 100 sports camps, enrichment classes, and fun activities.
Tawasentha Park’s adult exercise facility offers group activities, such as Functional Fitness, Functional Strength Training, Lifted Vision Community Yoga, Tai Chi, and Total Body Circuit. Please bring water and wear comfortable, exercise clothing and sneakers. You can also use a free app available for tracking your use of the equipment.
Tawasentha Park pool’s swimming hours are weekdays from Noon to 7pm, and weekends from 11:30am to 7pm. Adult Lap swim is available on Monday through Thursday from 11am to Noon and on weekends from 10am to 11:30am.
August is a popular paving month, with several projects in Town. State DOT has started the milling, setting, and paving of Route 20 (Western Avenue) from State Route 155 to State Route 146. The work includes reconstruction of various sidewalk ramps to comply with ADA standards and improving drainage. There will be weekday single lane closures on eastbound Route 20 from 10am to 6pm and westbound from 6am to 2pm. When paving begins, there will be single lane closures on weekdays from 7pm to 7am. Weather permitting, the project is scheduled for competition in mid-September.
The County of Albany has started milling, setting, and paving Depot Road from Voorheesville to Route 146 in Guilderland Center. This project is expected to take approximately three weeks, weather dependent.
The Town Highway Department plans, weather permitting, to pave Fuller Station Rd from Carmen Rd to West Old State Rd from August 19 to August 23, and Ostrander Rd from August 26 to August 30. Later this month, the planned paving includes Upper Hillcrest Ave., Wood St., Gaskill Ave., King St., Arcadia Ave., and Brookwood Ave. in McKownville, and Pinewood Dr., Birchwood Dr., and Parkwood Dr. in the neighborhood near Town Hall. The exact dates will be shared soon.
Please remember that the Town’s water usage restrictions remain in effect until September 15. The use of automatic underground sprinklers is limited to between 1am and 4:30am on odd days for properties with odd numbered street addresses and on even days for properties with even numbered addresses. For above-ground manually placed sprinklers and hand-held sprinklers, the water use is limited to between 6:30am and 8:30am and 6:30pm and 8:30pm on odd days for properties with odd numbered street addresses and on even days for properties with even numbered addresses. There are no water restrictions for hand-held sprinkling of non-commercial vegetable and flower gardens. Please contact the Water Department before filling a swimming pool. These restrictions are in place to maintain adequate water capacity and pressure in homes, businesses, and fire hydrants.
